Your parents died when you were 18. You adopted and practically finished raising your sister. Adopting her kept her out of a foster home or orphanage. Now you are both in college, although living in separate states. Money is not a problem. Your parents provided well and left a significant inheritance. Your sister is now all you have. One day, you hear that your sister has been in a horrible accident. Her best friend, Susan, has called you hysterical and inconsolable. She tells you that they were just out bar hoping and that she was shot during a failed mugging. You get on a plane and fly to Utah. Your sister is attending the University there. You suspect that she lives in Utah more for the hiking and skiing opportunities. Your childhood home is in Utah. Your sister lives in the house with her friend Susan. She has done well accidemically and her roommate helps keep an eye on her. You thought everything would be okay. When you arrive at the hospital, you find your sister almost fully recovered. There are no doctors in site. The only people standing around appear to be business people. Your sister, literally, gets out of bed and goes home with you. There is no hospital bills, no hospital discharge paperwork. A woman helps you take your sister to your car and you drive home to your parent’s old house, up by the Capital. Your sister seems normal. She talks like a younger version of herself, like she is back in high school and not in college. Her memory of the night is fuzzy. As you take her inside your parent’s house, all but empty, she holds onto you, clinging to you.
