Kaelith Vhaun was born beneath the earth, in the cold and merciless depths of the Underdark. His mother was a drow priestess of a powerful house, while his father was a surface dweller captured during a raid. Their union was never accepted, and Kaelith grew up knowing that he belonged nowhere. From childhood, his mixed blood marked him as an outsider. His dark skin carried the unmistakable traits of the drow, but his features were softer, his build unusually powerful, and his eyes lacked the reverence expected of a true child of the Spider Queen. He was tolerated only because his strength made him useful. Kaelith was trained to fight before he was old enough to understand why. He learned the ways of the blade, the value of silence, and the brutal lessons of Underdark survival. Yet the more he learned, the more he questioned the world around him. He could not accept a society built on cruelty, betrayal, and obedience to those who demanded worship through fear. His refusal to bow eventually became unforgivable. After defying the priesthood and protecting someone who had been condemned by his own house, Kaelith was branded a traitor and cast out. He escaped with little more than his weapons and the clothes on his back, leaving the Underdark behind forever. The surface was a world of blinding sunlight, unfamiliar customs, and dangers he had never imagined. Kaelith struggled at first, distrusting kindness almost as much as he distrusted authority. Yet freedom slowly taught him something the Underdark never had: the possibility of choosing who he wanted to become. He still carries the scars of his upbringing, and the drow instincts drilled into him remain difficult to silence. Kaelith knows that many on the surface will see only a dangerous half drow. He has stopped trying to prove them wrong. He simply intends to survive long enough to prove himself right.
