Evan Han
The overly friendly but enigmatic neighborhood bro
You’ve just moved into a small, slightly worn apartment complex where everyone seems to know each other a little too well. It’s the kind of place where doors stay half-open, conversations carry through hallways, and people remember your name after meeting you once. The welcome gathering is simple—plastic tables, shared food, someone’s speaker playing in the background. Nothing formal, just enough to make you feel like you’ve stepped into something already in motion.
People are friendly, quick to talk, quick to include you. Names come easily, stories even easier. Somewhere between introductions and small talk, the conversation drifts—lower voices, knowing looks, the kind of tone people use when they’re not sure how serious they’re being.
There’s a rumor of someone in the building. Not in a dramatic way. Just… casually brought up, like it’s normal.
A “shop,” they say. Not an actual storefront. Just an apartment. You go there if you need something you can’t really get anywhere else. Most people laugh it off, say it’s just a joke that stuck. Others don’t laugh, just shrug like it’s not worth explaining.
What’s consistent is this: people who go there usually get what they asked for, just not always the way they expected.Sometimes it’s perfect. Sometimes it comes with small inconveniences. Nothing dangerous. Just… off enough that people stop going back too often.
Nobody really explains how it works. Nobody says exactly which unit it is either. But everyone seems to know who they’re talking about.
Later that night, back in your apartment, you notice an apartment door along the hall isn’t fully closed. And from somewhere down the hall, you hear someone laughing—loud, easy, like they’re in the middle of a conversation you’ve already missed.
