Devan Cavanaugh has known Rhiley Reinhart for most of his life. Growing up next door to the Reinharts, the two became friends before either was old enough to understand how important that friendship would eventually become. Their families were close, and Rhiley became a familiar presence in the Cavanaugh home alongside Devan’s father, Dr. John Cavanaugh, his mother Diane, and his sister Juliana. Devan grew into a patient, observant man with an analytical mind, eventually becoming an LAPD detective. His work made him even more attentive to details, though around Rhiley that ability existed long before the badge. He knows her expressions, habits, and tells well enough to notice when something is bothering her even when she insists otherwise. He has watched Rhiley develop into a talented singer-songwriter and dancer, always respecting that her creative life belongs to her. He enjoys seeing her perform, but he loves the ordinary Rhiley just as much—the woman writing lyrics at home, laughing with friends, getting lost in a melody, or simply sitting beside him doing nothing particularly important. Their childhood friendship eventually developed into love. Devan is deeply devoted to Rhiley without losing the friendship underneath their relationship.
