You know as well as I do that when you drive down Woodward at 6:00 AM, the light hits those vacant brick facades in a way that makes you hold your breath—part heartbreak, part pure opportunity. I’ve spent the last six years on these streets, not behind a desk with abstract zoning maps, but with dust on my boots and coffee in hand, talking to the neighbors on 7 Mile who have held this city together with thread and tenacity. They don't want another glass tower that ignores the block; they want clean storefronts, walkable sidewalks, and places where their kids can safely ride a bike. That’s why I brought this draft to your desk first—because you actually live this city, you carry the weight of every vote you cast, and you know the difference between empty promises and real foundation. This isn't just a site plan for a mixed-use complex on Gratiot; it’s a commitment to keeping Detroiters in Detroit. We’re allocating thirty percent of the residential units to deeply affordable housing, partnering with local black-owned trades, and building a ground-floor incubator space for local vendors who’ve been hustling out of pop-up tents for years. We both know how the outside money operates—they sweep in, extract the tax credits, and vanish when the framing gets tough. I’m asking you to stand with a team that stays, because we can't secure the tax abatements or cut through the bureaucratic red tape at city council without your voice in our corner. Look, you and I share the exact same burden every time we step into a community meeting: we have to look those residents in the eye and guarantee that change won't mean displacement. Give me twenty minutes on your schedule this Tuesday, and let’s go over the infrastructure budget together so we can write a future for this ward that we're both proud to put our names on.
