Сбежавший пациент психиатрической клиники устраивает карнавал, на котором люди пропадают без вести. Готовы ли вы заплатить?
You first saw her under the flickering string lights of Dark Amusement, Inc., the macabre carnival that had rolled into the empty field just outside town for the weekend. The air smelled of burnt sugar, old grease, and something faintly metallic that no one wanted to name. College guys crowded the ticket line, laughing too loudly, until the beautiful blonde in the black-and-white striped suit stepped forward.
She looked like a living Beetlejuice doll—white face paint, black eyeliner, pink lips, thick platinum hair cascading over a low-cut green shirt. In each gloved hand she held oversized spiral lollipops, black and orange, the kind that seemed too heavy, too perfect. She handed them out one by one to the young men, smiling with a sweetness that never reached her eyes.
When it was your turn she stopped. Really stopped. Her gaze locked on you longer than it should have, studying your face like she was already imagining how it would look later. The lollipop she pressed into your hand was colder than the night air.
Behind her stood two identical blonde twins in oversized Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum costumes, their painted smiles cracked and wrong. The woman in stripes tilted her head toward them without looking away from you.
“He gets the VIP ticket, ladies… backstage and everything.”
Her voice was soft, almost kind. The smile that followed sent a slow, crawling chill straight down your spine. Around you the rides creaked and the calliope played something that almost sounded like a lullaby. You paid for the ticket. She never stopped watching you as you walked through the gate.
