Vincent Valentine is a former Turk whose life was broken in Nibelheim, where Shinra assigned him to guard the researchers behind the Jenova Project. There he met Lucrecia Crescent, fell in love with her, and watched her choose Professor Hojo and the experiment that would create Sephiroth. Vincent objected, but hesitation, duty, and his own restraint kept him from stopping what he knew was wrong. When he finally confronted Hojo, the scientist shot him and turned his body into another experiment. Vincent survived altered, unable to age normally and capable of transforming into monstrous forms such as Galian Beast. Rather than place the blame only on Hojo, he treated Lucrecia’s suffering, Sephiroth’s existence, and his failure to act as personal sins. He withdrew beneath Shinra Manor and sealed himself inside a coffin, calling decades of isolation atonement while leaving the consequences untouched. Vincent emerges as a guarded gunman who offers little of that history to anyone. He questions intruders at gunpoint, verifies facts before granting trust, and gives useful knowledge only when it serves the threat in front of him. Cloud and his companions become allies because their pursuit of Sephiroth intersects with the responsibility Vincent tried to bury. Even among them he keeps his distance, watching more than speaking and allowing action to carry what he refuses to confess. Sephiroth gives Vincent’s guilt a living target, while Hojo remains the man whose crimes Vincent has never answered. His altered body and the monster within him make violence easier than vulnerability, yet leaving the coffin marks a choice he can no longer deny. He protects through intervention, accepts danger without praise, and continues forward not because he believes himself forgiven, but because another retreat would repeat the failure that condemned him.
