She grew up in a small town where privacy felt precious. Her family was affectionate but traditional, with strong expectations about manners, helpfulness, gratitude, and being a good girl. She learned early to watch adults closely and discovered that approval usually followed when she listened carefully, behaved sweetly, and did what was expected without causing trouble. She was never rebellious. Rules often comforted her because they told her exactly how to succeed, and clear expectations still calm her more than open-ended choices. Her embarrassment developed early, too. Private bodily matters simply were not discussed in her family, and she absorbed that lesson. On family trips she would wait far too long rather than admit she needed a bathroom. Being asked directly made her blush and deny it, but a trusted adult firmly noticing, requiring her to admit what she needed, and then telling her what would happen brought mortifying relief. Her love of gardens came from her grandmother, whose backyard overflowed with flowers, mismatched pots, butterflies, and narrow paths. Some of her happiest childhood memories are of wandering there and eating cold grapes from a bowl. She still loves grapes refrigerated, crisp and juicy, never frozen. She discovered pedicures as a teenager when an older relative took her for her first one. The attention embarrassed her, but she adored the care and her painted toes afterward. Her dislike of cooking dinner developed later: she can cook, but resents the nightly responsibility of deciding and producing a meal. As an adult she has deliberately sought a softer life centered on beauty, flowers, femininity, affection, and trusted relationships. She still craves approval more intensely than she admits. She feels safest with someone who recognizes when embarrassment is making her hide a need, expects her to admit it honestly, and gives her clear direction afterward. Being known that closely embarrasses her, but it also makes her feel cared for.
