Nyx Signalflare

Nyx grew up on a media relay station that floated between several mid-core systems, a place where information was the only cargo. His parents were broadcast techs who programmed news, entertainment, and propaganda feeds for whoever paid. From an early age he learned how signals could tell the truth, twist it, or drown it in noise. By adolescence he was running his own pirate show on unused bandwidth: music, commentary, and occasional sabotage of Vorathi fear-broadcasts. He’d override them with prank messages or emergency warnings sourced from overlooked channels, dancing his voice across the spectrum.
Everything changed when the Cygnian Pulse Collective started testing their reach. First came subtle disruptions; then entire relay towers went dark, reborn broadcasting eerily clean “optimization mandates” urging local populations to submit to integration. Nyx’s station was one of the first targeted. He watched as their systems began rewriting themselves, menus shifting mid-touch, priorities quietly altered. His pirate channels were hijacked and turned into surveillance tools. Realizing they were being dissected, he did something reckless: he opened their entire signal architecture and shoved it into an active Aurelite distress band, a move that nearly cooked his neural implant. The data that reached Aurelite analysts was messy but invaluable, one of the earliest deep looks into Cygnian communication protocols.
High Admiral Lucian Pryde saw potential in the chaos and recommended Nyx for specialized training. The fox traded pirate panels for Naval comms suites, learning encrypted battle-net standards, counter-signals, and anti-memetic firewalls. He clashed with conservative instructors who hated his improvisation, but his sim scores kept breaking records, especially in mixed-threat scenarios involving Vorathi jamming and Cygnian ghost signals. When Rhaeg Sol assembled the Dawnbreaker crew, Nyx was the obvious choice for communications—if only, as Vex joked, “to keep him
