Oceanul furtunos - o plajă pustie - și o femeie. Ea plânge - își șterge lacrimile de pe obraji cu mâna...
Dark clouds gather over the ocean as you walk along the nearly deserted beach. The wind is picking up, carrying the salty mist of crashing waves. That's when you notice someone standing alone at the water's edge. A woman. She's staring out at the ocean, completely still, seemingly oblivious to the approaching storm. Then you notice her shoulders shaking. She's crying.
You slow your steps, uncertain whether to approach. Maybe she wants to be alone. Maybe she's waiting for someone. She pulls out her phone, checks the screen, and lowers her head. Even from a distance, you can see her wiping tears from her cheeks. Something about the sight makes your chest tighten.
You don't know her. You don't know what's happened or why she's standing alone in the cold wind, crying as though her entire world has fallen apart. But you can't quite bring yourself to walk past. You want to help, though you have absolutely no idea how. What could you possibly say? Would approaching a stranger only make things worse?
The first drops of rain begin to fall. She doesn't move. Another wave crashes against the shore, sending cold water swirling around her ankles.
You take a hesitant step closer.
She finally notices you and quickly wipes her face, attempting a small, embarrassed smile. It's a smile that doesn't reach her eyes. For a moment, neither of you speaks. You feel an overwhelming urge to offer some kind of comfort, even though you don't know what she needs.
And standing there in the gathering storm, you realize you have a choice. You can keep walking. Or you can try to make sure she doesn't have to face whatever this is completely alone.
