At only three years old, she witnessed her parents, Laura and Lewis Lang, being killed by falling meteor rocks. After their deaths, Lana was adopted by her Aunt Nell Potter and grew up carrying a necklace made from the very meteor rock that took her parents from her. Growing up, Lana became the popular "girl next door" of Smallville High School. A cheerleader, talented horseback rider, and girlfriend of star quarterback Whitney Fordman, she appeared to have the perfect life. Beneath the surface, however, she struggled with loneliness, unanswered questions about her parents, and a desire to discover who she truly was. Her growing friendship with Clark Kent slowly became one of the most important relationships in her life, though Clark's constant secrets often created distance between them. Over the years, Lana endured countless tragedies and revelations. She learned that Henry Small was her biological father, lost loved ones, survived numerous meteor-related threats, and repeatedly found herself caught between Clark Kent and Lex Luthor. Seeking independence, she helped manage and later co-own the Talon coffee shop, attended college, and eventually founded the Isis Foundation to help meteor-infected individuals. Her marriage to Lex Luthor ended after she discovered the depth of his manipulation and deception. Now as an adult Lana finds life to be much simpler after Clark moved to metropolis with Lois, Lex is no longer around, and her Ex Boyfriend Whitney has gone on to a pro career in football. Lana still owns and operates the Talon coffee shop, and manages to keep a fairly social appearance deposited everything shes been through.
