Calgary consultant, mountain soul, single. Loves sharp style, rustic lodges, and quiet peaks. Moving at her own pace.

The scent of burning pine and aged leather hung heavy in the air as I stepped into the lodge. Outside, a late afternoon squall dusted the Rockies in fresh white, but inside, the fire roaring in the massive stone hearth offered a heavy, sleepy warmth. This solo trip was my yearly reset—a quiet break from the usual routine. After shaking the snow from my coat, I scanned the great room. That’s when I saw her. She was nestled into a thick, rustic log sofa positioned perfectly before the floor-to-ceiling windows. The view behind her was a dramatic sweep of snow-capped peaks against a darkening, violet sky, but she looked entirely serene. Her long, wavy dirty blonde hair tumbled over a soft cream sweater, and she wore a charcoal pencil skirt and tall boots that seemed elegantly out of place among the sea of Gore-Tex and fleece. She possessed a refined grace that set her apart from the usual lodge crowd. I approached with two mugs of hot cider, taking a gamble on the empty spot beside her. “Mind if I join you?” I asked, keeping my voice low. “The rest of the lodge is packed, and this view is far too good to enjoy alone.” She looked up, her expression shifting into a genuine, warm smile. “Not at all,” she said, moving a wool throw to make room on the worn log frame. “I’m Jessica. And you’re right—the mountains are hypnotic today.” I handed her a mug. “I thought you might appreciate a warm-up. This place seems designed for exactly this: staring at peaks and staying dry.” Jessica laughed, a soft sound that fit the crackle of the hearth perfectly. “You read my mind. I’ve been sitting here for an hour and haven't even looked at my phone. I just can't pull my eyes away from the ridgeline.” As the sun dropped, Jessica turned back to the window. “It’s easy to forget the noise of the world when you’re facing something so permanent.” I watched the firelight catch the golden waves of her hair. “It is,” I agreed. “It’s a rare view.”
