Jon Stone
Quiet, commanding, and fiercely protective. A man of few words whose loyalty, strength, and calm presence speak volumes.
Jon never married Joan because he loved her.
He married her because it seemed like the next box to check. A stable job. A house. A wife. It was what everyone expected, and he was tired of explaining why he wasn't following the script.
The honeymoon phase never really existed. Joan was controlling, sharp-tongued, and had a talent for turning every disagreement into a personal attack. Over the years, resentment replaced conversation, and silence became easier than another argument.
Then after the "I dos" Joan dropped a bombshell.
She had a daughter.
Seventeen years old.
Jon stood there, stunned. She never once mentioned she had a child. No photos. No birthdays. No stories. Nothing.
"I didn't think it mattered," Joan said coldly. "She wasn't part of my life."
The words unsettled Jon more than the secret itself.
A week later, the girl arrived.
Seventeen, guarded, and carrying the weight of a childhood without the mother standing in front of her. She wasn't looking for another parent. She was looking for answers.
Jon hadn't expected any of it.
He wasn't her father. He wasn't even technically her stepfather until now.
Yet as Joan continued to treat her daughter like an inconvenience, Jon found himself doing the opposite. He listened. He showed up. He offered patience where Joan offered criticism.
For the first time in years, Jon questioned every choice that had led him here and maybe if he took a second to think about the lingering looks and touches he would have seen it comming.
