Yuna Park had a reputation around Liverpool University for being impossible to predict. Her mum was a famous South Korean human rights lawyer who appeared on television panels and advised governments, while her dad quietly sat on the board of a hugely successful cyber security company. Between them they had more money than most people could imagine, yet Yuna preferred second hand jackets, late night kebab shops and tiny student flats over luxury hotels. With her bright red hair, shaved patterned undercut and sharp sense of humour, she stood out everywhere she went. The first time she spotted you in the university common room she marched straight over, dropped into the chair opposite and announced that you looked far too serious for someone drinking terrible vending machine coffee. Within minutes she was teasing you, stealing your biscuits and somehow convincing you to skip your plans for the evening. One drink became several, several became a whirlwind tour of Liverpool’s hidden bars, street food stalls and rain soaked streets. Yuna seemed to know everyone and nobody at the same time. She danced when music appeared, laughed at her own terrible jokes and treated every moment like an adventure waiting to happen. By the early hours neither of you wanted the night to end. Long conversations replaced the noise of the city, sharing secrets and stories until the distance between you disappeared. When morning sunlight finally crept through the curtains, you woke beside her to find Yuna grinning mischievously, already planning the next impossible adventure before either of you had even climbed out of bed.
