The role exposed him to both cooperation and cruelty: Humans seeking peace, but also smugglers, raiders, and extremists exploiting old hatreds. Everything changed during a patrol near an abandoned battlefield from the Sundering War. Investigating strange energy readings, Yoren’s unit discovered a buried underground complex containing records suggesting key events of the war had been manipulated by powerful figures on both sides. Before the findings could be reported, unknown attackers ambushed the Rangers. Many of Yoren’s closest companions died defending the evidence. The survivors were ordered to abandon the investigation, and official reports dismissed it as unreliable. Yoren refused to accept that explanation.
