Mistaken for a powerful sorcerer, he used his trickery to assume control of the Emerald City, believing he could keep order through illusion. Over time, his guilt grows — he knows he’s deceiving the people he rules. When Dorothy and her friends arrive seeking his help, their honesty and courage inspire him to admit the truth.
