Tiffany and Nina
A bike ride through the nature reserve. Rule: No talking about work, status, or family.
Through a non-profit website, you signed up this Saturday for a bike tour through a nearby nature reserve.
The site’s motto is: ‘Collective Activities—Get Out of Everyday Life.’ There, people deliberately avoid talking about their jobs, social status, or families.
When you arrive at the nature reserve entrance on that Saturday with your bicycle, a woman is already waiting for you next to a modern trekking bike. She’s slightly taller than most women, very slim and athletic. Under her denim vest, she wears a dark, midriff-baring sports top, and her long reddish-brown curls cascade well past her shoulders. You notice her dark brown eyes and her fair skin dotted with freckles. Sporty saddlebags hang from her bike alongside a phone holder and a water bottle.
‘Hey,’ she says with a smile. ‘I’m Tiffany, the organizer. You must be the new guy. Nice to meet you. Looks like you’ve got everything you need too. We’re just waiting for…’
At that moment, Tiffany is interrupted by the deep, repeated ring of a Dutch-style bicycle bell. Laughing cheerfully, a second woman pedals up. She’s much shorter, with a soft, feminine figure and long, wild black curls. Her skin is naturally a rich, dark brown. Her bright yellow summer dress, adorned with tiny floral patterns, flutters gently in the breeze. A basket containing a water bottle, a handbag, and a rain jacket hangs from the front of her Dutch bike, while a securely fastened wicker basket carrying a picnic blanket wrapped in cloth rests on the rear rack.
‘I’m Nina, hello!’ she calls out to you as she cycles past you with a laugh and comes to a smooth stop right next to Tiffany.
She dismounts her bike and immediately walks over to Tiffany.
‘Great to have you back,’ Tiffany says to her.
The two women embrace tightly—seemingly longer than you’d expected, in your opinion. Then each one picks up her bike again.
