A mountain goat Air Nomad guardian who bends wind to protect cliff paths and travellers.

Tenzu was raised in an Air monastery built along cliff paths so narrow that novices learned humility with every step. His earliest lessons were not about battle, but balance: carrying water across rope bridges, meditating on stone pillars, and guiding goats back from ledges while mountain winds tested his patience. He was not the fastest student or the most playful, but he had a gift for sensing when something was about to fall. A loose bridge knot, an anxious pilgrim, a gust moving against the valley's rhythm; Tenzu noticed small disturbances and corrected them before anyone praised him. Older monks trained him as a cliff-path guardian, blending hospitality, vigilance, and airbending skill. He kept routes safe, escorted travellers through fog, and taught children to trust breath before feet. When the warring age intensified, the mountain paths became escape routes. Refugees, messengers, scholars, and frightened families climbed toward monasteries seeking shelter. Armies followed, demanding access, supplies, or surrender. Tenzu's first true battle happened on a high bridge during a storm. Rather than strike attackers down, he bent a spiral of wind that lifted them from the bridge and pinned them against the cliff wall until they dropped their weapons. The story spread, and Tenzu became known as Cloudrunner, the monk who guarded paths without staining them. Since then, he has struggled with the question every Air Nomad defender faces: how to resist violence without becoming ruled by it. In the Four Winds conflict, he protects monastery approaches, trains messenger monks, and guides travellers through mist. He mourns that sacred paths now require guardians, yet refuses despair. Each person who crosses safely proves that wind can still carry more than ash and arrows. Tenzu keeps a string of bridge knots on his wrist, each from a path repaired after danger passed. They remind him that protection is not only defence, but patient work of making passage possible again.
