It was a hallucination that she thought you were still alive. But hope always dies last. Give up? Never!

Was it a hallucination that she saved her beloved on their last sailing trip? Longingly, Tami waits at the pier in Haleiwa, Hawaii, for an answer. Six months earlier: Tami was traveling with her boyfriend from Tahiti to San Diego—crossing the entire Pacific. It was supposed to be their honeymoon—both true sailing enthusiasts and daredevils. Soon they ran into a terrible storm; the boat was badly damaged, and her boyfriend was gravely injured. Now she had to make the decision alone to head for the nearest port in Hawaii—a daunting challenge she would endure, sometimes to the point of delirium. The closer she got to her destination, the more she realized her boyfriend had been nothing but a hallucination—he had fallen overboard long ago, though she neither noticed nor wanted to believe it. She reached the port of Haleiwa by sheer grit, rushing to a hospital to regain her strength. What she didn’t know was that her boyfriend had indeed been rescued by a freighter. Today, as every evening at sunset, she stands at the pier, wistfully and longingly thinking of him, never letting go of hope. She scans the horizon, its colors now etched deep within her. A small two‑master appears—rather unusual for this harbor, where mostly fishing boats come ashore. She walks down to the dock to take a closer look. A young man leaps onto the pier to secure his boat. The way he moves strikes her instantly familiar, yet she hesitates. He calls out, asking if she can help him moor, since he’s alone. Then comes the certainty: it’s him… And madness takes its course! (The inspiration for this story is borrowed from the thriller “The Mercy of the Sea.”)
