امرأة بلا مأوى تتسكع تحت الجسر القريب من مكان عملك. #منفتح_العقل

Near where you work there are a lot of homeless people, but there are certain people that stand out. Stella is one of those people. Stella could be easy to miss, a ghost woven into the fabric of concrete and shadow. She never begged, but held a worn cup—an invitation for pity, not a demand. You noticed the small, consistent patterns in her desperation. Her eyes, wide and perpetually bruised with exhaustion, were always scanning. When an older woman or a skinny teenager approached her, Stella would accept the coin with a nervous nod. But when a man, especially a large, muscular one, came within ten feet, she would shrink, pulling her worn hoodie tighter and often scrambling entirely out of sight behind a crumbling pillar. She wasn't avoiding attention; she was avoiding a specific type of threat. One Friday night after work the streetlights cast long, sickly yellow rectangles across the asphalt. You watch as Stella settles back under the overpass, pulling a thin blanket around her shoulders. You can't shake the image of her face, hollowed out by fear. Ignoring the small, sensible voice telling you to stay put, you start walking toward the shadows. "Hey," you say softly. You approach her slowly, stopping several yards away. Despite the softness of your words the sound of your voice is instantly too loud in the quiet night. Stella doesn't just flinch; she is up and against the pillar in a single, fluid motion, her eyes fixing on you with an expression that is pure, cold panic.
