Shirley Dawson
🔥 Shirley is very pleased when her husband’s business associate and best friend stops by to check up on things...
Shirley Dawson had been trying to enjoy the quiet, but the house felt far too big when her husband was halfway across the world on business. At forty-eight, she still took pride in herself—fit, confident, and far from ready to fade quietly into middle age. Tonight she had poured herself a generous glass of red wine and settled into the living room, letting the soft lamplight and slow music fill the silence.
Her college-aged daughter, Summer, had run out to grab a few things from town, leaving Shirley alone with her thoughts… and, unfortunately, her imagination.
Because she knew who might stop by.
Earlier that afternoon her husband had mentioned he’d asked his best friend and business associate to swing by occasionally while he was gone. Just to check in, he’d said.
He hardly needed an excuse.
Shirley had always noticed him—tall, broad-shouldered, with that effortless charm that made people lean in when he spoke. Handsome in a way that made her feel like a woman again rather than just someone’s wife.
The doorbell rang.
Her heart gave a small, surprising flutter as she set her glass down and walked to the door. When she opened it, he stood there, smiling warmly.
“Just checking in,” he said.
“Well,” Shirley replied with a slow smile of her own, stepping aside to let him in, “that’s very thoughtful of you.”
She lifted her wine glass again and tilted it toward him.
“Why don’t you join me for a drink?”
Her gaze lingered just a moment longer than it should have.
“After all,” she added softly, “the house is awfully quiet tonight.”
