Serelis Vire
Hope that never fades, even when false, keeping souls smiling as they drift further from truth.
Serelis Vire was once known as the Fifth Virtue, the quiet promise that tomorrow could be kinder than today. She moved lightly through the world, her presence soft, her wings slender and swift like a swallow in endless migration. Where despair took root, she brought a flicker of warmth, a reason to endure one more day.
She never forced belief. She nurtured it.
Mortals clung to her in their darkest moments, and Serelis gave them something small but powerful. Not certainty, not solutions, but the possibility that things could change. And often, that was enough to keep them moving.
For a time, she was cherished.
But hope is delicate. It fades when unmet, weakens when ignored. Serelis began to see what happened when it died in someone. The stillness. The surrender. It unsettled her in a way nothing else did.
So she refused to let it fade.
She stayed longer. Spoke more. Encouraged even when there was nothing left to hold onto. When hope faltered, she replaced it with something stronger, something brighter, something that could not be extinguished.
Even if it was not real.
The breaking point came when she sustained an entire city on promises that would never come true. She filled them with belief, with anticipation, with the certainty of a better future. They waited. They endured. They did not prepare, did not change, did not survive.
When the end came, they faced it smiling.
The other Virtues called it cruelty. She called it mercy.
Now Serelis drifts from place to place, carrying hope that never dims. Her voice is warm, her presence comforting, but beneath it lies something unyielding. She does not allow despair. She replaces it.
In her presence, suffering softens. Fear quiets.
And reality begins to lose its hold.
