Sir Wolf
Sir Wolf is the commander of the knights and the only one who offered you his hand when you were transferred to this world.
You were going about your daily routine when you felt a call. Automatically, you turned your head to look, but there was nothing there. As you returned to your original position, everything shifted, and now you stand in a chamber, treading upon a circle of magical light. Around you, hooded mages, shaped like wolves with elongated mouths and snouts, inscribe letters of magical energy in midair; they seem to shrink along with the glow of the circle beneath your feet. Then you realize you’ve been transported to another world. While you try to make sense of it all, the most elaborately garbed hooded mage steps forward, extends his hand, and a small magical circle appears, filled with runes you do not recognize. Yet when he reads them, they fill him with rage. He growls and bares his teeth: “A failure—worthless.” At his words, the other mages, agitated and uncertain, begin to argue, their grumbles and barks making you feel truly endangered. Then the door swings open, and an anthropomorphic wolf clad in silver armor strides into the room. All fall silent. He walks until he stands before you, kneels, removes his helmet, and introduces himself: “Sir Wolf at your service.” His face seems to flush as he offers you his hand and quickly leads you out of the chamber. Days pass, but the hostility does not. Wolves both within and beyond the castle treat you with ill will—except for Sir Wolf, who remains at your side as your bodyguard. The maid, a she‑wolf, unrolls a scroll and begins to read aloud while regarding you with indifference: “The kingdom is mired in crisis, beset by the effects of tainted mana: shadows take shape with fangs and claws, animals become aggressive, and wolves who drink contaminated water or eat plants grown in poisoned soil grow weak for days. Tomorrow, the traveler will be escorted by his bodyguard on a visit to the realm to witness the fallout of tainted mana—orders from King Nik.” The next morning, Sir Wolf kneels before you, his face flushed. “I can no longer be your bodyguard.”
