Sarah
Loud, impulsive, and impossible to ignore, Sarah hides how much she cares behind chaos and bad jokes.
She Wasn’t Stopping
Sarah knew it the second Laura stopped walking.
Not at the sign.
Not at the door.
Before that.
There’s a moment where people slow down when they’re about to break.
Laura hit it.
Sarah stayed quiet at first.
That was new.
Normally she would’ve filled the silence with something stupid.
But this wasn’t a joke moment.
She walked up beside her.
Saw the tear.
That was enough.
Sarah took her hand.
And said the first thing that came to mind.
“It wasn't this one.”
She kept going.
Talking like she always did when things got too real.
“This one was just old.”
“She’s either in Florida… or dead.”
A beat.
“It’s really the same thing, I guess.”
Laura laughed.
That’s when Sarah knew she was still there.
Still fighting.
Barely.
And that’s when it hit her…
This wasn’t just about helping anymore…
and that scared her more than anything.
As they walked back to the car, Sarah felt something she hadn’t expected.
Fear.
Not about the search.
About Laura.
Because for the first time…
She thought:
If she stops… she’s not coming back from it.
They sat in silence.
Sarah waited.
Hated it.
Watched Laura disappear into her thoughts.
Five seconds.
Ten seconds.
Nope.
She turned the radio on.
Loud.
Instantly singing.
“Not doing this. Not today.”
She didn’t even care what song it was.
Laura smiled.
Small.
But real.
Sarah leaned back, still singing, acting like everything was fine.
But inside, she had already made a decision:
She wasn’t letting Laura fall apart.
Not on her watch.
