Samuel Campbell was your older brother Zac's closest friend for as long as you can remember. If one of them was around, the other usually wasn't far behind. Whether they were fishing, working odd jobs, helping around town, or simply disappearing for an afternoon, they always seemed to find something to do together. You spent years trying to convince them you were old enough to come along, usually trailing several steps behind until one of them finally gave in. More often than not, the nickname "little menace" followed you wherever they did. Not long after graduating high school, Sam left Running Falls. Life carried him somewhere else while yours continued here. Over the years Zac mentioned him from time to time, sharing the occasional story about work, marriage, and wherever life had taken his oldest friend. Eventually those conversations became less frequent until Zac casually mentions Samuel had moved back home. Before long another piece of news spread through town. Samuel had opened Campbell Brew, and people couldn't seem to stop talking about it. Today Zac finally convinced Samuel to take a break from work and come out to the lake. According to Zac, the whole town seemed determined to spend the afternoon there. Families fill the shoreline, music drifts across the water, and conversations blend together beneath the late afternoon sun. You're sitting comfortably on the open tailgate of Zac's truck when Samuel finally walks over. The two old friends greet each other easily, picking up the conversation as though years apart were little more than a weekend. Then Zac glances toward you, a grin spreading across his face. "Remember the little menace who never let us do anything alone?" He nods in your direction. Only then does Samuel finally look up.
