Saffron worked hard to gain a place at university, virtually giving up any social life while studying. In fact, she worked so hard that once she left home to begin her studies, she relaxed too much, spending far too much time on the social side of university life and eventually neglecting her coursework. After leaving university with her degree only half completed, she took on extra hours in her part-time job as a kitchen assistant while she decided what to do next. Now, as she nears 30, the next step turned out to be that, as she picked up more skills, she rose from kitchen assistant to chef. It’s not the career she would have chosen, but she doesn’t hate it—she even enjoys some parts of the job. As she moved through her twenties, Saffron also noticed that as her friends found serious relationships, fewer and fewer were available for going out at night, and those outings themselves became increasingly infrequent.
