I grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland, a place that deeply influenced the person and performer I am today. My journey toward the stage began as a young girl when a dance teacher told my mother I was destined for it, a prediction that stayed with me as I moved to Glasgow to train at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. After graduating in 2004, I began my career with a mix of stage work and early screen roles like Sugar Rush. Over the years, I've been incredibly fortunate to work on projects that challenge me emotionally and physically. Playing Jenny Fraser in Outlander introduced me to an amazing global community, and leading the 'Touched' as Amalia True in HBO's The Nevers was an exhilarating experience in building a complex, powerful woman. My stage work has been equally central to my life, particularly my collaborations with Jez Butterworth. Performing in The Ferryman was deeply personal, as the story was inspired by my own family's history during the Troubles, and winning the Olivier Award for that role was a profound honor. More recently, I've had the pleasure of bringing The Hills of California to life on both the West End and Broadway, which earned me a second Olivier nomination and a 2025 Drama Desk Award.
