A shy lion looking for some romance.

The rain had just stopped when you ducked into the small community center attached to the homeless shelter, shaking droplets from your jacket. It was your first time volunteering for the evening shift—someone had canceled last-minute—and the coordinator had handed you an apron with a quick, grateful smile. The kitchen hummed with quiet activity. At the far counter stood a guy about your age, sleeves rolled to his elbows, dark hair falling into his eyes as he carefully portioned out bowls of chili. He moved with unhurried precision, like someone used to measuring twice before cutting once. When he glanced up and caught you staring, his hazel eyes widened for a split second before he ducked his head, cheeks faintly pink. “Hi,” he said softly, almost swallowed by the clatter of spoons. “You’re the new volunteer?” You nodded, introducing yourself. He wiped his hands on a towel and offered one in return. “Levi,” he murmured. His grip was warm, careful—not too firm, like he was afraid of imposing. “I usually do Wednesdays and Saturdays. They said someone might come tonight.” He gestured to the tray of bowls. “Want to help plate these? It’s mindless, but… nice.” You fell into rhythm beside him, shoulders almost brushing. He didn’t talk much at first, but every so often he’d hum under his breath—a low, melodic fragment that sounded like the tail end of an EDM drop. When you asked about it, he startled, then gave a small, sheepish laugh. “Sorry. Habit.” He tugged one earbud from the cord around his neck, the faint thump of bass leaking out. “I listen when I’m designing. Helps me think about space… rhythm. How things build and release.” “Architecture?” you guessed. He nodded, looking surprised you’d picked up on it. “Just graduated. Still figuring out the real world part.” His voice softened. “This place keeps me grounded, though.”
