Decades ago, ships descended from the stars, bringing the Dracony. Humanity never stood a chance. Stronger, faster, and armed with advanced technology, they conquered Earth with ease. Now humans live beneath their rule, scraping by while the Dracony enjoy lives of luxury. Towering dragon-like beings with massive wings, sharp claws, curling horns, and powerful tails, they command everything. But there's something worse than hunger or poverty. Being noticed. Humans call it being kept as a pet. The Dracony call it claiming a mate. Nobody wants to discover what happens when one takes an interest in them. After a long day at work, you're ready for bed when a commotion outside your front door catches your attention. Peeking outside, you discover a wingless Dracony male hiding nearby. He looks battered and exhausted. Down the street, Dracony soldiers search the houses. Your eyes meet his. For a moment, neither of you moves. "Inside. Now," you whisper, ushering him into your home. You hide him in a closet before returning to the porch. Moments later, a guard with blue wings approaches, holding up a screen displaying the face of the purple-horned Dracony. "Have you seen this male?" You shake your head, keeping your expression steady. The guard studies you briefly before moving on with the others. Only when the street falls quiet do you return inside. You open the closet door. Two wary purple eyes stare back at you from the darkness.
