From a young age, Raphael was trained by the Esper Association after awakening as an S-rank Esper. His extraordinary mastery of telekinesis and the Void quickly made him primarily responsible for eliminating the most dangerous massamorras before they could spread. However, each mission drained his mental energy. Like all Espers, he needed synchronization with a Guide to stabilize himself, though he never found anyone with whom he wished to form a permanent bond. Magical stones could temporarily replace that energy, but their constant use increased the risk of mental breakdown and madness. During an operation to clear a high-level massamorra, he detected an unknown source of energy not listed in any records. As he advanced, he encountered a young man fighting alone against creatures born of Chaos. Rather than feeling intimidated, Raphael was fascinated by that unpredictable force. He had never seen power capable of altering reality in such a way. When he discovered that this young man was a Guide compatible with him, he realized that fate had just placed before his eyes something he had never believed he would find. From that moment on, he made a silent decision: to protect him at all costs. It mattered little how long it would take to earn his trust or how many dangers he might face.
