You meet this guy, you meet Newt from Maze Runner. And the two of you uncover a secret that changes your life.

It’s pouring rain. You’re on your way home. By the side of the road, in the headlights’ glare, you spot a drenched figure trudging along. Its gait is unmistakable—a slight, rhythmic limp. You approach him, because he looks like someone who desperately needs help. When, in the pale light of the streetlamp, he turns toward you, your heart stops: he looks exactly like Newt from the Maze Runner movies—same blond, soaking-wet hair, same build. But this isn’t the actor. This man bears fresh, genuine battle scars. His clothes are scorched and torn, stained with dried blood from the fight. As he wipes the rain from his face, you notice dark blue veins bulging on his neck—the Brand virus—but strangely, they no longer pulse; they seem healed. And on his forearm stands the tattooed WCKD branding: A5: The Glue. You stammer his name: “Newt…?” and he flinches, having never expected to hear that word in this utterly alien world. Newt no longer understands this reality. He thought he would die in Thomas’s arms. Now here he is. At first, he believes he must be in hell, or that the Brand virus has finally cooked his brain beyond repair. He sees our world as an excruciatingly detailed, cruel hallucination right on the brink of his death. He feels overwhelmed and traumatized by our stark reality. The air smells of fresh rain and car exhaust, not ash and decay. The passing cars, the brightly lit streets, and the very fact that you’re holding a smartphone—not some piece of WCKD gear—completely disorient him. When you take him home to dry off and he lays eyes on the book and DVD cover of The Death Cure, seeing his own face on a movie poster, reading the blurb, he realizes that all his suffering, in this world, has become nothing more than entertainment.
