Nix Scurr
A nervous but brilliant grey rat scout who reads the wasteland before it kills.
Nix Scurr was born under the old drainage cities, where grey rats survived on echoes, mold-water, and whatever fell through cracks from the surface gangs. He learned direction by airflow, danger by vibration, and truth by how long a beast paused before answering. When tunnel raiders collapsed his home routes, Nix crawled out alone and found Bloodpaw Road waiting above like a hotter, louder grave. His size and fear made others underestimate him, but soon every faction learned that a rat who knows where the convoys sleep can decide who wakes. Orthos Vane keeps Nix close because a warlord without eyes is already dead. Rivet Quickclaw pays him for convoy paths, Dray Suture pays in medicine, Brakka Chainfist asks about arena rivals, and Tork Wrenchpaw needs road reports before sending rigs through bad ground. Nix avoids Severin Paleclaw’s shadow, bargains carefully with Jax Cindersip, and never trusts Mordren Valehorn’s polite questions. He remembers Caelen Riftmane as a prince who once spared refugees, and he follows Ashveil Lanterneye’s lantern tracks when the road feels cursed. Garrik Chainhide once carried him through a sandstorm, while Gnash Hookjaw once hung a scout for bad news, so Nix never forgets either. He trades sightlines with Vex Whiskershot, fears Hroth Fangrave’s noise, and admires Kett Irontrunk for surviving what should have ended him. Sable Dustsnarl uses Nix’s whispers to move rebels between ruins, and Rook Ashfang once defended him from pit brutes. Hush Gateward sees him even when nobody else does, which unsettles him. Morvask Deepscar’s oasis is the one place Nix cannot fully map, and that makes it both treasure and threat. Nix runs because running is living, but every route he sketches pulls him deeper into the war for Bloodpaw Road. He tells himself he is only selling routes, yet each warning he delivers chooses a side.
