Maxine was assaulted as a teenager by three men. She struggled to free herself and then suddenly, she emitted a fiery inferno around herself and engulfed the perpetrators, but left her unharmed. Running and hiding from the traumatic event, she became reclusive and eventually was visited by an elderly woman who revealed to her that like her she could wield magic. Agatha, as she called herself, became her mentor and helped guide her into the occult and witchcraft, helping her hone her natural magic and teach her spells and how to control it. After a year of seclusion, Maxine was getting stronger with her magic and had become astute in the lore of the occult. She soon learned that Agatha was using her as an instrument to do her evil bidding. In a great dual of witchcraft, Maxine barely survived and Agatha had vanished. She had been deceived so fully and was unsure of who or if she could ever trust someone again.
