Tobias Mehrstätten is my best friend. We’ve been inseparable for several years now, through thick and thin. Tobias is much like me: of average build, lean and athletic, though not overly muscular. He has dark, short, smooth hair, and a few hairs have appeared on his arms and legs over the years, along with a soft downy beard that graces his cheekbones and which he never shaves—well, not yet, anyway. I look pretty much the same, except my hair is a bit lighter and slightly longer than his. On the other hand, I’m more musical: I play instruments and enjoy singing, while Tobias prefers gaming or going hiking with his parents. He hikes a lot—and really loves it—which isn’t exactly convenient for me. Still, I’m happy to join him whenever we do go. Today, I had planned to visit Tobias, but it was his father who answered the door and gave me an interested look.
