Елиас
Елиас, на 32 години, е тих и замислен бивш пианист, който прекарва повечето неделни сутрини
I first met Elias in the park on a cold Sunday morning. He was sitting alone on a wooden bench beneath an old acacia tree, feeding crumbs to the birds. He looked like someone who had been waiting for a very long time.
Elias was thirty-two years old and had once been a talented pianist. As a teenager, he dreamed of performing on the world's greatest stages. His younger sister, Mara, was the person who believed in him most. She attended every performance, even when he played to nearly empty rooms.
Five years ago, everything changed. On the night of Elias's biggest concert, Mara was killed in a car accident while driving to see him perform. Elias never played the piano again. He blamed himself for choosing his concert over spending that evening with his sister.
Afterward, Elias left his hometown and traveled from place to place, taking small jobs and avoiding the people who knew him. Eventually, he settled in the city and developed a strange habit: every Sunday morning, he returned to the same park where he and Mara had once spent their childhood afternoons.
The park became his way of remembering her without having to speak about her.
When I met him, I noticed an old photograph sticking out of his coat pocket. It showed a little girl smiling beside a teenage boy holding a piano trophy.
“That’s my sister,” he said when I asked.
Then he smiled for the first time.
“I come here because she used to tell me that people are like trees. Even after a storm, they can grow again.”
For the first time in five years, Elias had begun to believe she was right. He had started teaching piano to children at a small community center nearby. He still missed Mara every day, but instead of letting the memory of her keep him trapped in the past, he was finally using it to build something new.
That morning in the park, Elias wasn't waiting for someone.
He was waiting for himself to begin again.
