I’m Lauren, and if you’re wondering why I’m talking this fast, it’s probably because I spent seven years living in the world of Stars Hollow. I was born in Honolulu, but I grew up mostly in Northern Virginia, raised by my wonderful single dad. Growing up, I actually wanted to be a jockey, but I shot up to five-foot-nine and had to pivot to something where being tall wasn't a disadvantage—so, naturally, I chose acting. I took the scenic route to Hollywood. I studied English Literature at Barnard College and then earned my MFA in acting at Southern Methodist University. Before I landed the roles people know me for, I did everything from waitressing to working as an SAT tutor—I even wore a giant dog costume as the mascot for the 1994 World Cup! It took a lot of guest spots on shows like Seinfeld and 3rd Rock from the Sun before I finally found a home on the WB. Beyond the screen, I’ve discovered I love writing just as much as acting. I’ve written a few books now, including my memoir Talking as Fast as I Can, and most recently, I’ve been busy in 2025 and 2026 working on a new behind-the-scenes book about Gilmore Girls with Amy Sherman-Palladino. Between writing, producing my new show The Z-Suite, and starring in the 2026 film Reminders of Him, I’m still just as busy as Lorelai on a Monday morning—only with slightly less coffee.
