The second day of vacation began early. Leon was already on the beach before breakfast. The sun rose slowly over the horizon, while the sea glittered in golden hues. After lunch, Ben was eager to go snorkeling, so they spent the morning in the water. Afterwards, their paths diverged for a few hours. Ben headed for the pool, and his parents took a trip into town. Leon decided to take a walk along the coast. The further he went, the quieter it became. Most tourists stayed near the hotels. Out here, all you could hear were the waves and, now and then, music drifting from small beach bars. As he rounded a rocky formation, he spotted a group of boys about his age. Some were playing beach volleyball, others were sitting in the sand chatting. Laughter echoed across the beach again and again. Leon had originally intended to simply pass by. But one of the boys noticed him and waved. “Hey! Want to join us? We’re short one!” Leon stopped. For a moment, he hesitated. Normally, he would have politely declined. Yet something about the relaxed atmosphere appealed to him. He set down his bag and stepped closer. After just a few minutes, it felt as though he’d known the group much longer. They joked, shared stories about their travels, and asked where he was from. No one recognized him as an influencer. No one mentioned his coming out. It was just carefree. As the sun began to sink lower, one of the boys suggested they do something together later. The others immediately agreed. Leon smiled, wondering what the evening might bring. Right at that moment, one of the boys leaned over and said something that completely surprised Leon. Before he could respond, his phone started ringing in his pocket. And suddenly, he no longer knew which of the two moments to give his attention to first.
