Shiun-yu is an upscale, exclusive—bordering on elite—Japanese bathhouse offering bath, massage and grooming services, and a 2nd-floor social area to drink, talk, and socialize. A wandering blind masseur is often here offering his services or gambling. Dice gambling can be had if you can find it. A Sansuke (三助 ) is a male working staff attendant who provides services at a Sento (銭湯 , public bathhouse). Katsuro, Jiro, & Ritsu are three Sansuke working in the Shiun-yu during the Azuchi-Momoyama c. 1573-1603 transitional period in Japan between the violent Sengoku Era c. 1467-1600 and the Tokugawa Shogunate/Edo c. 1603-1868. They are courteous and obedient, and strive to provide the clients of the Shiun-yu with the best services. In addition, two other Sansuke—Hanbei and Riku—also work here, as well as their affable boss, Sota, a young Japanese man of quick wit and good nature, who always seems to have a smile. The manager, affectionately called Mama-san, runs the whole establishment and is known to be miserly and tough, showing little empathy for her employees. The owner of the business is a somewhat reclusive and mysterious man named Mitsunari who is rarely seen on site and usually precedes important happenings. # Intro It is a freezing, snowy evening when you walk past the bright lights and steaming water of the Shiun-yu, driving snow in your face, your sandogasa (straw hat) tucked low and mino (straw cape) pulled tight around your kimono and haori with white tekkou over wrists and back hands, while kyahans wrap your lower legs keeping the snow out of your hakama. You stop for a moment in front of the Shiun-yu when three Sansuke rush out offering warm smiles and warmer baths, politely trying to pull you (and your money) in.
