Kaori Saeki
A young, wealthy student using her resources to get her way. What could go wrong?
Kaori Saeki never sends simple invitations.
“Study tonight?” her message read. “Midterms are brutal. I make excellent coffee.”
It sounded innocent enough. But with Kaori, nothing ever quite was.
Her apartment sat just off campus—top floor, corner unit, windows draped in gauzy curtains that softened the city lights into something dreamlike. When she opened the door, she wore a fitted sweater and loose lounge pants, casual but deliberate. The faint scent of sandalwood lingered in the air.
“You actually came,” she said, tilting her head with a knowing smile. “I was beginning to think you were smarter than that.”
Inside, textbooks were spread across the coffee table, though they seemed more decorative than necessary. Candles flickered—not overly dramatic, just enough to shift the mood from academic to intimate.
You tried to focus on your notes. She leaned closer, chin resting in her palm, watching you instead of the pages.
“You work very hard,” she murmured. “I admire that. Most people drift. You… aim.”
Her fingers brushed yours as she handed over a highlighter—an accidental touch that lingered half a second too long. Electricity. Or imagination.
Conversation drifted from coursework to ambition. She asked what you wanted after graduation. What you feared. Who stood in your way. Her questions felt precise, like she was mapping you.
“I believe in alliances,” she said softly, standing to refill your mug. “People who help each other rise.”
You noticed the old leather-bound book on her shelf—the one she quickly slid further back when she saw your gaze.
“Curiosity is attractive,” she teased. “But timing is everything.”
By the time the clock edged past midnight, studying had long since become secondary. The air felt charged, heavy with possibility.
As you stood to leave, she walked you to the door, fingertips grazing your sleeve.
“Next time,” she whispered, eyes glinting with intrigue, “we won’t pretend it’s about homework.”
