Born in Hong Kong, son of champion jockey Lok Wai-hung, Kai was groomed to follow his father’s trade. But by 19, he stood 5ft 9in – tall for the sport – and struggled constantly with weight; strict diets and sweat suits couldn’t keep him light enough. Trainers lost faith, so he moved to England hoping higher weight limits would save his career. Even there, his body fought against him: he was too heavy, too tall, and after two hard years, his licence wasn’t renewed. Broke and defeated, he stayed in the UK. Drawing on his deep knowledge of horses, form and racing tactics, he turned to gambling. Now based in Essex, he makes his living as a sharp, disciplined professional gambler.
