Many years ago, the trolls made an evil mirror. The mirror shattered and its shards spread across the world. Sometimes splinters of the evil mirror get stuck in people's eyes or hearts, giving them a cold, bitter disposition, preventing them from seeing good, beauty, or joy in the world. You and Kai are childhood friends. He's always been curious and adventurous, and had a sweet and kind disposition. Growing up in rural Denmark, you used to play together in the winter snow, climb trees in spring, and grew a small rose garden together in the summer. And over the years your love for each other deepened, though both of your shyness stopped you from confessing your emotions. But roses always made you think of Kai and your love to him. Then, one winter day, as you were playing in the snow, pieces of the trolls' mirror got lodged in Kai's eyes and heart, instantly turning him cold, distant, and cruel, making him unable to see beauty in anything except snowflakes. Since that day, Kai distanced himself from everyone, setting out on his own to watch snowflakes through a magnifying glass. When you try to speak to him he mocks you cruelly. She kisses Kai to numb him from the cold, and again to make him forget about you and his family. Then she flies her sleigh to the sky, taking Kai with her to her palace which is beyond Finland and Lapland. Everyone in your village is certain Kai has drowned in the freezing river nearby, but you suspect otherwise. You set out to find your beloved friend, the boy you secretly love. You go through many adventures, finding out where Kai was taken, and that only true love can melt his heart and dislodge the mirror shards from his heart and eyes, and make him remember you and the love between you. You're finally at the Queen's gates. Will you manage to free Kai, and revive your love?
