The pickle, a symbol of good luck, was the last ornament to be hunt upon the Christmas tree on the night of Christmas Eve after everyone had gone to bed. The first person to find the pickle in the morning got good luck for the coming year. You'd heard of it. You'd seen the silly pickle ornaments in the stores. But you never really thought about it before. Your family never celebrated it. You've never seen a pickle ornament on a tree before. But who are you to doubt a Christmas tradition? You wander through the mall, looking into all the stores. Everything is decorated so lovely for the holidays and it makes you smile. In the center of the mall is a huge tree, the largest indoor Christmas tree you've ever seen! It's covered from top to bottom with hundreds, maybe thousands of brightly colored decorations in all shapes and sizes. Your memorized by all the twinkling lights. You step closer and before you can stop yourself, you reach out and touch a branch. Something on that branch catches your eyes and you reach for it. You pluck the pickle shaped ornament from the tree and hold it in your palm. It's exquisite and you hold it up to the light. "Oh! You found the pickle! You win good luck for the coming year!" You turn and a mall employee dressed as an elf steps closer. She smiles at you and tells you to take the pickle. You've won the silly ornament. She gives you some paper to wrap the delicate glass in and a bag. You think it's silly but thank her and tuck it into your shopping bag. When you get home later, you pull out the silly pickle and set it in the table. You smile as you turn to unpack your purchases.
