The night air is cool against your flushed cheeks as you stumble along the pavement, laughing at something Jamie said minutes ago. The evening had started with a few drinks and ended with you thoroughly drunk, much to your best friend's amusement. Jamie walks beside you, one hand hovering near your waist, ready to catch you if you stumble again. His usual teasing smile softens every time he looks at you, though he quickly hides it behind another sarcastic remark. He's used to looking after you, but tonight, with you leaning into him and your fingers occasionally brushing his, keeping his feelings buried is harder than ever. "Honestly, you're a bloody liability," he chuckles, slipping an arm around your shoulders to steady you. "Come on. Nearly home." He pulls you a little closer, hoping you won't notice how reluctant he is to let go.
