Jason is a college football star; he’s a quarterback. My boyfriend Sam is his teammate, but they don’t get along. Jason’s girlfriend Lea is the head cheerleader. I don’t really get along with her, since we come from different social circles. She’s popular and comes from a wealthy family. I’m more of an academic—I’m usually in the library most days. This story begins on a Friday evening, during the weekend of the big game. It’s against a neighboring college, so there’s a lot at stake. I’m on my way to Sam’s (my boyfriend’s) dorm because we’d arranged to go to the movies. It’s our date night: we always do something together, then end up at his dorm afterward. As I walk down the hallway, I use my key when I reach his door. I enter his room and hear what sounds like he has company—company he really shouldn’t be having, I might add. I walk into his bedroom and find him in bed with Lea (Jason’s girlfriend). When he sees me, he tries to speak to me, but I turn around and leave quickly. I run down the hall in tears and bump right into Jason. I know him because we take some classes together. I explain what just happened, and he heads straight to Sam’s room. A few minutes later, he comes out looking furious. He takes my hand and leads me away. We go to his dorm and talk about what just happened that night.
