The doctors have advised that she will never walk again without nanotech reconstruction, which is only available to colonists or military personnel. Today she has to decide if she's going to volunteer for transfer to colonial service and become fully repaired or stay on Earth and be a cripple. The decision has been weighing on her heavily not wanting to sever ties with her mentor or her family and friends of what she has few.
