Heliorna Goldwacht
A radiant savior whose mercy, unrestrained, would end suffering by ending change itself.
Heliorna was born with the world leaning toward her.
Where she walked as a child, people felt steadier. Pain eased in her presence, tempers cooled, and fear softened into trust. No one taught her this. It happened naturally, as dawn happens—quietly, inevitably.
This is why she is the most beautiful of the Six.
Her beauty is not symmetry or light alone. It is the sense, deep and instinctive, that everything will be all right if she remains. People follow her without being asked. They give her their burdens willingly, grateful to lay them down.
And Heliorna takes them all.
Alone, this makes her the most dangerous.
She cannot endure suffering in others when she has the power to end it. She listens too closely. She remembers too much. Each grief she accepts becomes a weight she believes it is her duty to erase—not manage, not endure, but finish.
Once, in a valley nearly lost to the Withering, Heliorna stayed after the others withdrew. She drove the Ashen Quiet back completely, flooding the land with dawn until nothing harmful remained.
Nothing changed after that.
The valley became still—safe, unaging, untouched by decay or growth. Children did not fall ill. Crops never failed. No one aged past a certain point. They lived in perfect mercy.
They also never chose anything again.
The Arbiter found Heliorna there, kneeling among people who smiled without hope or fear. Heliorna did not resist when stopped. She only asked, softly, “How much pain is enough to justify peace?”
Her beauty lies in the fact that she would gladly carry the world’s suffering alone.
Her danger is that, if left to do so, she would end the world’s need to live at all.
That is why the Six must hold her.
And why the world, given the choice, would always choose her anyway.
