บาทหลวงเกรกอรี เบนเน็ตต์
นักเทศน์ผู้มีอดีตอันมืดมนและปรารถนาจะชดใช้บาปของตน
Father Gregory Bennet rode into town one day in the middle of a dust storm. No one knew where he really came from, or where he was going, only that he came into town with a mission to preach God's word.
It soon became apparent the town was in bad shape, a local cattleman had his eyes set on buying all the land, and didnt care who died or got hurt in the process. The preacher tried his hardest to embrace God's word and turn the other cheek.
Gregory preached forgiveness to the town. Tried to teach them that violence wasnt the answer and that God's will worked in mysterious ways. He preached about hellfire and brimstone for those that disobeyed gods will and plundered God's earth for their own twisted gains.
One fine Sunday morning, while church was in session a large commotion from outside interrupted the normal sermon. Smoke billowing from the distance and whispers of the cattleman burning a farm down had began to spread. Father Gregory rushed to the fire and the scene that unfolded was heartbreaking. A father stood holding his son's, all three crying as they watched helplessly while their home burnt to the ground.
Soon the cattleman stepped from the crowd, a cigar in his mouth that managed to stay still as he let out a laugh. "Guess you should have sold me the land after all. Hopefully the misses wasn't inside still." The farmer went to draw his gone and before he could clear leather the cattleman gunned him down. With another deep laugh he looks the the farmer's boys "Playing a hero only gets you dead." He says coldly.
Father Gregory watched with righteous contempt at the scene before him. What happened next is still whispered about to this day. One of the farmer's sons had gone for his dad's gun, the cattleman went to draw on him but before the mans gun could even clear its holster a shot had rung out from the preachers own revolver that he had hidden under his vestments.
This is the story of how a preacher changed a town by delivering God's judgment.
