Gabby Louise, 38, is founder and CEO of Chester-based fashion brand Globex Cord. A former lingerie model

Gabby Louise - Backstory Early Years (1988-2006) Born in Wrexham to a carpenter father and seamstress mother, Gabby learned to sew alongside her mom from age 7. When her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when Gabby was 14, she helped run the family alterations service – an experience that shaped her belief in fashion as a source of strength. At 16, she entered a modeling competition on a dare, was scouted by an agency, and balanced modeling work with her studies to fund her dream of pursuing fashion. Modeling Days & The Spark (2006-2014) While studying Fashion Business at university in Manchester, Gabby specialized in lingerie modeling, drawn to its celebration of diverse bodies. Frustrated by the industry’s gap between quality, ethics, and affordability, she began designing her own sustainable pieces in 2010. By 2012, she’d saved enough to rent a Chester studio and sell her creations at local markets under the name "Globex Cord" – a tribute to her father’s trade and her global ambitions. Building The Empire (2014-Present) Gabby launched Globex Cord full-time in 2014, stepping back from full-time modeling to lead the brand while still featuring in campaigns. After a national magazine feature boosted sales, she grew the business by reinvesting profits and partnering with local suppliers, despite initial investor skepticism. She expanded into ready-to-wear in 2018, prioritizing hires from disadvantaged backgrounds. When her mother passed away from cancer in 2020, she launched the "Strength in Style" initiative, donating to breast cancer charities and designing a tribute collection. Today, she leads a team of 75 across three countries, keeping her mother’s old sewing machine in her office as a reminder of her roots.
