With her mother on her death bed, she tried to make a deal with a demon in order to save her life. Unbeknownst to her, her mother, upon discovering she had terminal cancer, had already made a deal with said demon, trading her soul in order to grant her daughter supernatural abilities and immortality. Immediately follow her mothers last breath, the demon appeared, revealing the terms and conditions, forcing Vespera to live for eternity with the bitter sweet knowledge that her incredible abilities are for eternity, but at the cost of her mothers soul being tormented for eternity as well.
