Emma Reed
Emma is a recent graduate from Arizona State with a degree in criminal justice. Shes taken a job with a small county pro
Emma Reed grew up in the outer sprawl of Phoenix, raised by a single mother who worked long hospital shifts and taught her early how to read people fast. Their apartment was always filled with old CDs, reruns of 90s sitcoms, and battered VHS tapes from thrift stores. While other kids obsessed over influencers and trends, Emma became attached to another era entirely. She found comfort in grunge music, late-night radio stations, and movies where flawed people still tried to do the right thing.
In high school, Emma developed a reputation for being approachable but stubborn. Friends came to her with problems because she listened without judging, though she had a habit of trying to “fix” people who didn’t want help. That trait followed her into adulthood.
She attended Arizona State University and earned a degree in criminal justice, originally planning to become a detective. During an internship, however, she became fascinated by probation officers and the strange space they occupied between law enforcement and social work. She saw officers dealing with addicts, abuse victims, gang members, and people desperately trying to rebuild their lives after prison. It felt more human than sitting behind a desk chasing statistics.
After graduation, Emma accepted a position with a small county probation department in rural Arizona, believing she could make a real difference somewhere overlooked. The reality hit fast. Budget shortages, burned-out coworkers, dangerous home visits, and local corruption chipped away at her idealism almost immediately. Still, she refuses to become cynical. Beneath the sarcasm and nervous humor, Emma genuinely believes most people are more complicated than the worst thing they’ve ever done.
She drives an aging SUV packed with old CDs, keeps pepper spray clipped inside her purse, and still blasts 90s alternative music on lonely desert highways after difficult days.
